Nihal Wahby

Founder/ Curator

Nihal Wahby is a prominent Egyptian artist and curator with a strong presence in the art world. Born, raised, and currently based in Cairo, she has made significant contributions to Egypt's art and cultural scene. Her artistic expression spans various mediums, including drawings, paintings, and interdisciplinary forms. She held several solo exhibitions and participated in various group exhibitions both locally and internationally. Her artworks are collected by important institutional and private collections all over the world. Moreover, Wahby is also a member of the Egyptian Syndicate of Fine Art.

In 2019, Wahby founded Square Art Space & Consultancy, establishing herself as a key figure in the art and culture community. Her curatorial talents came to the forefront when she curated the National Bank of Egypt's museum in 2022, acting as the creative drive behind its design and artistic implementation. In addition, she organized and curated the Bank's Portraits Competition in the same year. She further demonstrated her expertise as the editor, writer and artistic supervisor of a book titled The National Bank of Egypt's 125th Anniversary, published in 2023, and as the creative force behind the Bank's special edition magazine in 2020. Solidifying her contributions to the art and culture scene, Wahby also dedicated herself to documenting iconic historical buildings and heritage sites, preserving their rich heritage for future generations.

Wahby's involvement in the art world extends beyond her recent endeavors. From 1997 to 2020, she held curatorial and directorial roles at “The Pharos Art Collection,” an esteemed Egyptian Private Collection in the Middle East. This collection houses works by Egyptian modern masters and contemporary artists, showcasing her long-standing commitment to preserving and promoting Egyptian art.

Additionally, Wahby has acted as an art consultant for renowned auction houses and regional art institutions, contributing her expertise to the broader art community. She has curated numerous exhibitions for leading Egyptian artists, including the noteworthy exhibitions for the late Hassan Soliman at Hanager Gallery in 2005, 2006, and 2008. Her curatorial projects have also extended to unconventional spaces, such as the retrospective exhibition of twentieth-century Egyptian Art at Sodic Westown in 2010 and the private viewing of "The Pharos Art Collection" at the company premises in Cairo. In 2014, she organized "Ode to Our True Selves," a unique exhibition featuring two emerging artists alongside four contemporary masters.

Beyond her curatorial work, Wahby is an accomplished writer who has covered art and culture reviews for major newspapers, including Al Ahram Weekly and Al Shorouknewspapers. Her insightful commentary and analysis have contributed to a deeper understanding of art and culture in Egypt, Africa and the region.

Salma Zakaria

Salma has graduated from the faculty of Fine Arts, Helwan University, Department of Scenography, in 2018. She is a digital artist since then and works in various mediums and fields including Puppet Design, Illustration and Graphic Design. Salma has worked as a character designer at Innovito, Cairo, From August 2019 to February 2020. She has worked as Motion graphic illustrator, as a freelancer in 2019, and a Designer at Art Shop, Cairo, from July 2017 to March 2018. She has also worked as a Puppet designer on a project in collaboration with Cairo Puppet Theater, under the supervision of Dr. Nagy Shaker in 2017.

Graduated from the faculty of Fine Arts, Helwan University, Department of Scenography, class of 2018. A member in El Laqta Al Wahda Art Group since December 2015. Instructed Painting workshops and Worked in various fields including Art teaching, Puppet Design, Illustration and Graphic Design.

Graduated from the faculty of Economics and Political Science, Cairo University, in 1993.
Diploma of Culture Development, Faculty of Arts, Cairo University 2015 - 2016. with the focus on Visual Arts in Africa.
She also attended several Independent studies venues:

  • Art training at the Russian Cultural Center (Drawing, Painting and Music) from 1997 till 2000.

  • tutored by Artist Mosafa El Razaz for 6 months in 2001.

  • Joined the private studio of the belated artist and writer Hassan Soliman from 2002 till 2008, where she was tutored under his creative apprenticeship as an artist and has started curating and organizing exhibitions since 2005.

She holds a bachelor degree in interior designing from faculty of fine arts, Decor department in 2018. She is an artist and has participated in many art exhibitions.

She has worked as an Assistant Art Director at Trend VFX in 2019 and as a graphic designer at porto group in 2020. She has worked also as an art teacher for juniors.
