Ode To Our True Selves Exhibition
Curated exhibition for four well established artists alongside two emerging artists in SODIC, part of exhibiting art in unconventional spaces in 2015.
Curatorial statement
Art is a language we have always used to express ourselves. Whether it is by drawing on a piece of paper, painting on a canvas, scribbling a little image, it is a means to manifest our selves. Our identity is part of self-conception and self- perception, which forms our collective identity with its own distinct culture. In this way, identity is both characteristic of the individual but also overlaps with each one of us.
The “Ode to Our True Selves” exhibition is a distinct and rhythmic view of several artists’ interpretation of identity and vision while portraying individuality and uniqueness, forming, in the bigger context, a collective identity and vision, a verse in rhyming poem. Art is a universal language that has always brought people together while opening new perspectives, views and horizons. This exhibition will focus on embracing this concept of the uniqueness of diversities.
“Ode to Our True Selves” is a contemporary and interactive group exhibit embracing artists who are seeking each in their own way and their different dimensions, identity, soul and heart. Gazbia’s colorful expressions of vivid and energetic present, El Bahr’s search for the core of existence, Adel’s iconic faces in search of our root identity, Abla’s abstract painting of contemporary Cairene streets with their chaotic and dynamic movements and pulse, Monaiseer’s blending the past and the present, and Wahby’s exploring individual and collective awareness, freedom, and hope.
This exhibition takes place in a new and unconventional space, breaking free from stereotypes in order to liberate our minds and souls. This space is a host embracing art and acts as the mediator between the art and the people.
“Ode to our True Selves” aspires creating awareness while enjoying and interacting with the art.
